ABELL
The Abell Community comprises about nine blocks including
the residences on Barclay Street, Vineyard Lane, Abell Avenue,
Guilford Avenue, and 30th, 31st, 32nd, and 33rd Streets. The
community is entirely residential, with approximately 550
single and multiple-family row houses and three apartment
buildings. Some adjacent assets are the Barclay School, the
Waverly Library, the 32nd Street Farmers Market, the Book
Thing, and Huntington Church.
The Abell Improvement Association (AIA) works to celebrate
and improve our neighborhood for everyone calling the Abell
Community home. AIA collaborates with several
neighboring associations such as the Charles Village Civic
Association, Waverly Improvement, Better Waverly, Harwood,
and Old Goucher.
AIA builds on and fosters a strong sense of community in
the Abell neighborhood throughout the year by:
- Keeping neighbors informed through the monthly newsletter,
website, and email list serve
- Sponsoring the Annual Abell Community Street Fair
- Maintaining a community place and space in the Abell Open
Space on 32nd Street
- Addressing issues like sanitation, nuisance houses, noise,
and crime
- Working together to improve our community with Neighborhood
Walkers and strong ties to the Barclay School
- Sponsoring other annual social events: Spring Picnic,
Holiday Caroling, & New Years Eve Progressive
Dinner
Meetings are held on a quarterly basis and are
open to the public. Membership dues are $5 per year per person.
