SANITATION & SAFETY

National Night Out Against Crime 2007
The Sanitation Team
The District Sanitation Team (affectionately referred to as the “Clean Team” is a small group of dedicated staff members who are on the streets every working day endeavoring to keep our neighborhoods clean, pleasant in appearance, and welcoming to residents and visitors alike.
The primary functions of the Sanitation Team are to:
- Proactively clean in the post area during each work day. Team members clean sidewalks, street gutters, storm drains, sewer wells, and tree wells.
- Respond to requests for special services throughout the District.
- Attack "hot spots" which are areas that consistently need special attention caused by illegal trash dumping. (See the Sanitation Team FAQs page for more info on this significant problem).
- Haul trash and other debris to city solid waste disposal facilities.
- Provide sanitation services for community events as requested.
The Clean Team is prohibited by the Department of Public Works from:
- Removing garbage and materials from private property.
- Removing large appliances, tires, construction materials, hazardous waste, or large tree branches.

The Safety Team

National Night Out Against Crime 2007
The CVCBD Safety Team is a group of Community Safety Officers who patrol the District on foot, bicycle, and in motor vehicles during daytime and early evening hours. These men and women are the "eyes and ears" of the neighborhood. They provide a friendly, organized, and uniformed presence on the street. The District Community Safety Officers do not have arrest authority, and do not carry weapons or handcuffs. The Safety Officers create an atmosphere to prevent incidents, provide information about the District and about community safety, educate area businesses and neighbors on city ordinances (e.g., trash days, dumping) and coordinate with the Clean Team.
The Safety Officers call 311 and 911 when problems or suspected problems arise. Calls from these Officers are placed on High Priority and are addressed promptly. The District Safety Team benefits from a close working relationship with the Baltimore Police Department, Johns Hopkins University, and Union Memorial Hospital Safety Patrol, and other law enforcement entities.
If staffing resources permit, the Safety Officers can provide a security presence for area meetings and events as requested, escorts for area businesses, and occasional escorts for the elderly and disabled population.
To request Safety Team services:
Call the Community Safety Team on 410-235-4411, Ext. 17. A CVCBDMA staff member will take your information and dispatch the call to the Safety Team Supervisor. We will follow up with you via phone call, or email to let you know the status of the request.
